Leicester Social Forum was founded in May 2004 following a series of preparatory meetings to decide how we would operate. It was set up by local unions, campaign groups, political groups and individuals.

Monthly Planning meetings. Regular public meetings on topics of concern eg Debt Cancellation, Pensions, Education, Health. We have no officers. Chair selected at each meeting. Decisions by consensus.

Leicester Social Forum involves most local campaign groups, unions and left political groups including the Greens plus individuals.

We our own statement of principles which is based on the WSF Charter but makes points explicit. The principles are not a ‘policy’ that anyone has to sign up to and are permanently a ‘draft’ .

LSF enages in social activities, campaigning activities and developes alternative policy proposals on broad aspects of public services and the environment.

We also produce a regular free bulletin.

Leicester Social Forum has campaigns ongoing on :

Pensions Rights.

Against privatisation of Education

Defending a free, public NHS.

Twinning Leicester with Bethlehem.

Opposing cuts in local services.

We also have a spin off group looking at workers’ representation.

Ressources – Recursos –

LSF gets affiliation fees from unions and from campaign groups. The affiliation gives no privileges and is voluntary.
